Supported by a collective of national organizations leading anti-sexual violence work, Elevate|Uplift is built on the foundation of lessons learned from the Sexual Assault Demonstration Initiative. Elevate|Uplift deepens and broadens that work by offering survivor-serving organizations the opportunity to explore these lessons learned with us.

The Rape Crisis Movement emerged in the 1970s alongside the feminist and civil rights movements, leading to the formal establishment of rape crisis centers nationwide. Prior to this period, support for survivors was often provided informally by families and community networks.

Beginning in 2011, the Sexual Assault Demonstration Initiative (SADI), funded by the Office on Violence Against Women, was created to enhance sexual assault outreach, services, and community partnerships in dual/multi-service programs. E|U was created from the SADI lessons.

The SADI lessons affirm that empowering, stable leadership is essential for organizations to make a meaningful impact in their communities. Leaders set the tone internally, which is reflected in program services.

Sexual violence (SV) is any type of unwanted sexual contact. Domestic Violence/Intimate Partner Violence (DV/IPV) is a pattern of coercive behavior that is used by one person to gain power and control over a current or former intimate partner or dating partner.
